The multi Olivier Award-winning musical Sunny Afternoon will end its London run in October just over two years since its West End debut.
The production which begins a national tour at the Manchester Opera House on 19 August will bow out of its London home, the Harold Pinter Theatre, at the end of its current booking period on 29 October.
The winner of four awards at this year’s Olivier Awards including Best New Musical and Outstanding Achievement in Music for Ray Davies, the musical story of the 1960s band The Kinks opened in London in October 2014.
The current cast includes Danny Horn as Davies, with Oliver Hoare as Dave Davies, Tom Whitelock as bassist Pete Quaife and Damien Walsh as drummer Mick Avory. (At certain performances, the role of Davies is played by Ryan O’Donnell).
The line-up also features: Jason Baughan, Niamh Bracken, Christopher Brandon, Harriet Bunton, Alice Cardy, Oliver Hoare, Danny Horn, Gillian Kirkpatrick, Megan Leigh Mason, Jay Marsh, Ryan O’Donnell, Stephen Pallister, Charlie Tighe, Gabriel Vick, Damien Walsh and Tom Whitelock. The understudies are: Alice Cardy, Lia Given, Lloyd Gorman, Vicki Manser, Kay Milbourne, Nick Sayce, Robert Took, Alex Tosh and Robbie White.
Featuring some of The Kinks’ best-loved songs, including ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Waterloo Sunset’ and ‘Lola’, the show has music and lyrics by Davies with a book by Joe Penhall and original story also by Davies. It is directed by Edward Hall, designed by Miriam Buether with choreography by Adam Cooper, lighting design is by Rick Fisher, and sound design by Matt McKenzie for Autograph. The musical supervisor is Elliott Ware.
The original West End Production of Sunny Afternoon is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions with Tulchin Bartner Productions; Greg Ripley-Duggan for Hampstead Theatre Productions; Tanya Link Productions; Just for Laughs Theatricals/Glass Half Full Productions; and Rupert Gavin, in association with Hampstead Theatre and Arlon Productions.
