Golden Globe-winning actress Teri Hatcher will take charge of London’s most high fashion musical The Devil Wears Prada when she steps into the role of the ultimate boss from hell Miranda Priestly at the Dominion Theatre from 20 October.
The former Bond Girl and Desperate Housewife will join the hit production following the final performance on 17 October by Debbie Kurup who will play Runway’s editor-in-chief following current star Vanessa Williams last curtain call on 17 October.
Best known for her roles in internationally successful TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Desperate Housewives, along with her role opposite Pierce Brosnan’s 007 in Tomorrow Never Dies, Hatcher made her theatre debut as Sally Bowles in the acclaimed US tour of Sam Mendes‘ revival of Cabaret, and also won praise for her portrayal of Morticia Addams in a hit Californian production of The Addams Family.
Commenting on her latest role, Hatcher said: “I’ve been fortunate enough to play some pretty formidable women throughout my career, but very few can compare to the Miranda Priestly. I’m absolutely delighted to be joining The Devil Wears Prada in the West End. Miranda is intelligent, commanding, and has a glorious way of putting you in your place while being funny at the same time. Her dialogue is unforgettable, her confidence is contagious. These are the kinds of roles one loves to play. I can’t wait to embrace Miranda’s sharp wit, fierce ambition, and iconic style, and share her story on a stage with a new audience every night.”
Hatcher’s final performance in the role is currently scheduled for 6 February 2027. The production is currently booking up to 25 September 2027.
Featuring an original score by Olivier and Tony Award winner Elton John (Billy Elliot: The Musical, The Lion King), lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub (Suffs) and a book by Kate Wetherhead (Ever After, Submissions Only), the musical version of Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel is directed and choreographed by triple Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (La Cage aux Folles, Kinky Boots).
The high-powered creative team also includes set designer Tim Hatley (Life of Pi, Back to the Future), costume designer Gregg Barnes (Some Like It Hot, Legally Blonde), lighting designer Bruno Poet (The Tina Turner Musical, Frankenstein) and sound designer Gareth Owen (Come From Away, & Juliet), with casting by Jill Green.
The Devil Wears Prada – The Musical played a preview season at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in the summer of 2024 before arriving at the Dominion Theatre in London in October 2024.
Based on Weisberger’s 2003 book and the 2006 Twentieth Century Fox film which starred Meryl Streep as the formidable Miranda Priestly, the musical previously played a development run in Chicago in 2022.
