Richard Cameron’s hit musical comedy The Glee Club will feature in the new season at the Theatre By The Lake in the heart of the Lake District.
Presented by Stockroom in association with Theatre By The Lake and directed by the company’s artistic director Kate Wasserberg, the raucous tale of a group of singing miners will play the Main House at the Keswick venue from 24 February until 12 March 2022.
First staged at London’s Bush Theatre in 2002 ahead of a West End run, Cameron’s 1960s-set work features classic songs from the 1950s.
Featuring a number of shows which were originally planned for 2020, the 2022 season at the Theatre By The Lake will also include the world premiere of Carmen Nasr’s The Climbers, Liz Richardson’s ode to the healing power of nature SWIM and a co-production of Emma Rice’s adaptation of Brief Encounter with Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre and Bolton’s Octagon Theatre.
Theatre by the Lake’s artistic director Liz Stevenson said of her season: “I’m so thrilled to announce our programme for 2022. It feels a long time in the making and a watershed moment as we look to the future after a challenging time for the theatre and our sector. I’m absolutely delighted that we’re producing the world premiere of The Climbers, and co-producing SWIM, maintaining our commitment to new writing telling stories that have a connection to our landscape and local communities.
