David Hasselhoff will bring his own inimitable style to the hit West End production of 9 to 5 The Musical when he takes on the pivotal role of Franklin Hart Jnr in December.
Welcoming the casting of The Hoff, Dolly Parton said: “I am so pleased that David is joining our show. He will be a terrific addition to an already amazing cast, the audiences are going to love him just as much as I do. Get ready to be Hassled Hoff!”
The Baywatch and Knight Rider star who made his Broadway debut in 2000 in the musical Jekyll & Hyde and has played Billy Flynn in Chicago at the Adelphi Theatre, will join the Savoy Theatre production from 2 December until 8 February next year.
Commenting on his imminent arrival in the hit show, Hasselhoff said: “I went to see the show back in June and I thought it was ‘Hofftastic’. That’s when I knew I wanted to be part of it. Franklin Hart Jnr is going to be a fun part for me to play and I’m looking forward to being back on stage in the UK.”
Hasselhoff will appear alongside current stars Caroline Sheen (Violet Newstead), Chelsea Halfpenny (Judy Bernly), Natalie McQueen (Doralee Rhodes) and Bonnie Langford (Roz Keith). The Hoff will step into the role of Hart following the departure of the show’s current boss-from-hell, Brian Conley, who will give his final performance in the production on 30 November.
From 2 December, the cast at the Savoy Theatre will include: Victoria Anderson, Alexander Bartles, Simon Campbell, Alexander Day, Rhiane Drummond, Demmileigh Foster, Molly-May Gardiner, Llandyll Gove, Ben Irish, Jenny Legg, Natasha Mould, Sean Needham, Jon Reynolds, James Royden-Lyley, Giles Surridge, Antoine Thomas-Sturge, Richard Taylor-Woods, Sasha Wareham and Emily Woodford.
Presented by Queen of Country Parton and based on the 1980s movie in which she starred alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, the show is directed by Jeff Calhoun, the director of the 2010/2011 US tour of the musical.
The lively musical comedy features music and lyrics by Parton, and a book by Patricia Resnick, based on the screenplay by Resnick, and the director of the original film, Colin Higgins.
A comic battle of the sexes involving three female office workers who get the better of their sexist, egotistical boss, the musical attracted 15 Drama Desk Award nominations and four Tony Award nominations when it ran on Broadway in 2009 with a cast that featured Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty and Marc Kudisch.
Calhoun heads a creative team that includes: choreographer Lisa Stevens, set and costume designer Tom Rogers and lighting designer Howard Hudson, with musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Mark Crossland, musical direction by Andrew Hilton and casting by Victoria Roe.
The show previously debuted in the UK with a national tour beginning in 2012 and had its London Fringe premiere in 2017 with a well-received production at Upstairs at the Gatehouse.
