Casting has been announced for Theatr Clwyd’s revival of Jim Cartwright’s award-winning The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.
Directed by the co-artistic director of Out of Joint Theatre, Kate Wasserberg, the major new production will begin previewing at the Anthony Hopkins Theatre in Mold on Thursday 5 October ahead of an opening night on Tuesday 10 October. The production is due to run until Saturday 28 October.
The company will be led by Theatr Clywd associate Catrin Aaron (Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, Macbeth) who will take on the title role of Little Voice. She will be joined by Theatre Clywd returnees: Victoria John (Cyrano de Bergerac, All My Sons) as Sadie, Christian Patterson (All My Sons, A Christmas Carol) as Mr Boo/Phone Man, Nicola Reynolds (Silas Marner) as Mari Hoff, and Simon Holland Roberts (The Taming of the Shrew, Cyrano de Bergerac) as Ray Say. Joseph Tweedale (The Borrowers and Taith, The Sherman Theatre) completes the cast in the role of Billy.
Wasserberg heads a creative team that includes: set designer Amy Jane Cook, lighting designer Nicholas Holdridge, sound designer Dyfan Jones, and assistant director Matilda Reith.
Set in a northern town in the 1980s, Cartwright’s story of a shy young woman with an amazing talent for mimicking some of music’s most distinctive female voices debuted at the National Theatre in a production directed by Sam Mendes in 1993.
Featuring a show-stopping performance by Jane Horrocks who would later reprise the role on screen in an Oscar-nominated movie, the production transferred to the Aldwych Theatre. A West End revival in 2009 featured former X Factor finalist Diane Vickers in the title role.
