Gray O’Brien will play Captain Von Trapp in the touring production of The Sound of Music
Former Coronation Street villain Gray O’Brien will make his musical theatre debut as Captain Von Trapp opposite The Voice’s Lucy O’Byrne as Maria in Bill Kenwright’s new touring production of The Sound of Music in December.
The Scottish actor, who was a double award winner for his performance as bad guy Tony Gordon in the ITV soap, was most recently seen on TV in the 12-part drama Titanic: Blood & Steel. His stage work includes starring opposite Peter Bowles in Anthony Shaffer’s Sleuth at the Apollo Theatre.
Audiences will get their first glimpse of O’Brien and O’Byrne in their new roles when The Sound of Music tour opens at The Broadway, Peterborough on 2 December.
Directed by Martin Connor and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Bill Deamer, with musical direction by David Steadman, the production coincides with the 50th anniversary of the much-loved film version.
