Asa Murphy will take centre stage in his celebration of the legendary music star Buddy Holly, Buddy Holly Lives – The Music Never Dies for a mini tour.
Co-produced by Bill Elms Productions, the production will open at the Albany Theatre in Coventry on 16 February before visiting Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre, the Theatre Royal in St Helens and The Coro Ulverston in February and the Joe Longthorne Theatre in Blackpool in July. Further dates will be announced later this year.
Featuring many of Holly’s greatest hits including ‘That’ll Be The Day’, ‘Peggy Sue’ and ‘Oh Boy’, the celebration of the Texan whose short life and career revolutionised the face of contemporary music influencing everyone from The Beatles to Bruce Springsteen, also stars Leslie Butler as Vi Petty and Ronnie Orr as Dave ‘Pappy’ Stone.
Commenting on the show, Liverpool-born performer and writer Murphy said: “Writing this musical has been a real labour of love for me as I have been raised with the timeless music of Buddy Holly, and to see the audience’s reaction to the show, dancing and singing in the theatres has been one of the highlights of my career.”
The musical’s producer Bill Elms said: “I am thrilled to be working with Asa Murphy on a series of productions he has created, he is a consummate professional and has created some wonderful shows including this great celebration of Buddy Holly’s life and music. The audience reactions have been great, and we know this new version is going to be even more special, audiences are in for a treat.”
