Stage and screen favourite Claire Sweeney will become the new headline act at Proud’s popular Cabaret All Stars shows in April.
Sweeney, the actress and singer who first found fame on Phil Redmond’s fondly remembered Brookside and went on to star stage in musicals including Chicago, Guys and Dolls and most recently on tour in 9 to 5: The Musical, will follow stars including Bill Bailey, Julian Clary, Duncan James, Denise Van Outen and John Partridge for multiple dates from 2 April 2022.
Commenting on her addition to the shows which feature some of Europe’s most accomplished cabaret, drag, burlesque, and acrobatic acts, Sweeney said: “I am a big fan of Proud Cabaret. It’s one of the best nights out in London. I have been many times to see my good friend Duncan James, and had a fabulous time. I’m thrilled to be joining the Proud family!”
Announcing the newest addition to the All Stars line-up, Proud CEO, gallery, club owner and entrepreneur Alex Proud said: “I am thrilled to welcome Claire to Proud Cabaret All Stars this spring. She is a national treasure and it is an honour to have her on our stage.”
Sweeney will take to the stage on 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, and 30 April and 7, 14, 21 May to perform and introduce the cabaret and dinner shows at the striking heritage building underneath Waterloo Bridge on the North Bank of the River Thames.
The spectacular shows feature acts including award-winning international cabaret star Pi the Mime, Moulin Rouge cabaret and couture act J’Adore La Vie and Brazilian burlesque performer Marie Devilreux.
In order to safely welcome back audiences after the first Covid lockdown, Proud Embankment underwent a complete makeover to ensure maximum social distancing. With a modern, glass surround on the upper level at Embankment customers can enjoy clear sightlines while remaining apart from other groups.
