The BBC has confirmed the recording of the fifth instalment of the popular National Lottery’s Big Night of Musicals will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on 28 March at 7.45pm.
Hosted by Jason Manford, the celebration of the best of musical theatre was filmed in front of an audience of 12,000 at the AO Arena in Manchester on 26 January.
Highlights include Alexandra Burke as music legend Chaka Khan in I’m Every Woman: The Chaka Khan Musical and an exclusive performance of ‘Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say)’ from Jesus Christ Superstar by Sam Ryder, making his debut as Jesus.
The line-up also includes a taste of the new production of Miss Saigon, songs from Mel Brooks’ The Producers, Wicked, The Lion King, Oliver!, Sunny Afternoon and Paddington The Musical, and an exclusive Disney medley celebrating the genius of composer Alan Menken performed by West End stars Lucie Jones, Mae Ann Jorolan and Trevor Dion Nicholas.
The event also features specially choreographed collaborations with local National Lottery-funded performing groups: Stockton-on-Tees men’s choir Infant Hercules with Jason Manford and the cast of The Choir of Man; and a preview of La Voix’s performance as Miss Hannigan in the upcoming touring production of Annie performing alongside Manchester’s Wild Things Performing Arts.
Created as a thank you to players of the National Lottery who have helped contribute over £1.4 billion in funding to more than 29,000 theatre-related projects in the UK over the last 31 years.
