Fans will be invited to join in the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of much-loved movie Dirty Dancing when the stage/screen hybrid production Dirty Dancing In Concert visits 12 cities across the UK.
Presented by Lionsgate, TEG MJR, GEA Live and the producer of the stage musical version of the film, Karl Sydow, Dirty Dancing In Concert features a screening of the digitally remastered film along with a band and singers performing live on stage in sync with the action on screen and leading a post-screening singalong.
The tour will open on 13 May 2022 at the Forum in Bath before heading for the Sands Centre in Carlisle (15 May), Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall (16 May), Sheffield City Hall (17 May), Usher Hall in Edinburgh (18 May), Eventim Apollo in London (19 May), Birmingham Symphony Hall (20 May), the Barbican in York (21 May), Hull Arena (22 May), the Pavilions Theatre in Bournemouth (24 May), Bridgewater Hall, Manchester (25 May) and St David’s Hall, Cardiff).
Written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino, the low-budget Dirty Dancing which was released in 1987 with little fanfare is widely seen as the perfect example of an audience-driven success story. Starring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey and acclaimed stage and screen actor Jerry Orbach, the love story of Johnny and Baby captured the imagination of cinema and home viewers. The video version of the film famously became the first movie to sell over a million copies.
