Home-bound audiences will be able to get a taste of the initiative that brought a touch of musical theatre magic to a London car park with the release of digital recordings of the West End Musical Drive-In concerts via the stream.theatre platform.
Featuring over 25 West End stars including Alice Fearn (Come From Away), Lucie Jones (Waitress) and Layton Williams (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) the five concerts will be streamed to home viewers with a new concert released every week from 19 February until 21 March 2021.
Announcing the online release of the shows which provided many artists with their first chance to perform live for theatre-hungry audiences last year, performer and co-producer Shanay Holmes said: “There were so many fans from all over the country that were unable to attend these sell out events. We are so happy to invite you all to join us now, to experience this musical phenomenon from your homes! You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. And you’ll have one hell of a party. It’s the perfect antidote to your lockdown blues!”
Holmes (Rent) who features in four out of the five concerts, appears alongside Williams, Shan Ako (Les Misérables) and Maiya Quansah-Breed (Six The Musical) in the first concert which will be streamed on 19, 20 and 21 February at 7pm.
The second show on 26, 27 and 28 February at 7pm turns the spotlight on Six with performances from former and current cast members Grace Mouat, Jarneia Richard-Noel, Maddie Bullyment, Courtney Bowman, Natalie May Paris, Jodie Steele, Sophie Isaacs, Victoria Mansah, Courtney Stapleton, Collete Guitart and Shekinah ‘Shaka’ McFarlane.
Holmes appears alongside Alice Fearn, Laura Pick, Emma Hatton and Sophie Evans in the Wicked-themed concert on 5, 6 and 7 March at 7pm and joins Aladdin’s Trevor Dion Nicholas, Hiba Elchikhe and Matthew Croke on 12, 13 and 14 March.
Streaming on 19, 20 and 21 March at 7pm, the final concert features Lucie Jones and fellow Waitress star Kelly Agbowu and Jon Robyns (Les Misérables) and host Shanay Holmes.
Presented by the team behind the popular West End Musical Brunch events, the West End Musical Drive-In series brought West End-quality entertainment to thousands of fans at the North London site for three months last year.
Each show featured live performances of musical theatre classics from West End stars on stage and projected onto three large screens with sound provided via a tailor-made FM radio frequency.
