James Beeny and Gina Georgio of Toy Soldier Productions
Shakespeare’s villainous Lady Macbeth provides the inspiration for new musical Lady M, the latest project from Toy Soldier Productions’ Gina Georgio and James Beeny.
The musical which has begun workshops re-imagines the Scottish Play as a contemporary musical with Macbeth’s scheming wife at the heart of the action. The workshops will conclude with a showing of Lady M at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art on 22 December.
Directed by Jean-Pierre Van Der Spuy, the cast includes George Blagden (Company, Gielgud Theatre), Kerry Ellis (Wicked, West End/Broadway), Robert Hands (Come From Away, Phoenix Theatre), Jamie Muscato (Heathers, The Other Palace/Theatre Royal Haymarket), Maiya Quansah-Breed (Six, Arts Theatre/UK tour) and Karl Queensborough (Hamilton, Victoria Palace Theatre). The workshop company is completed by Devon Elise-Johnson, Maria Graciano, Tom Hier, Sam O’Rourke, Claire Parrish and Paul Wilkins.
Blagden and Queensborough feature alongside Earl Carpenter (The Phantom of the Opera, Her Majesty’s Theatre) and Bradley Jaden (Wicked, West End/international tour) on the music video for the show’s opening number ‘Mother Scotland’.

Toy Soldier Productions was founded in 2020 by the musical theatre-writing partnership of Beeny and Georgio. The duo’s first musical theatre production, the First World War-set The Dreamers, debuted in workshop form in 2018 at the Victoria Palace Theatre followed by four fully-staged workshop performances at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios. The Dreamers workshops were also directed by Van Der Spuy.
