Comedian and best-selling author Tony Hawks will debut his new full-length musical, Midlife Cowboy at London’s Pleasance Theatre in September.
Writer/director Hawks will also take to the stage as mid-life crisis suffering Stuart, alongside former Coronation Street favourite and gifted impressionist Debra Stephenson (Son of a Preacher Man, UK tour) as his country music-loving wife, Jane.
The story of the lives and loves of the members of the Swindon Country and Western Club as they compete for first prize at the prestigious Railway Museum Gala Evening will also star actor, musician and impressionist Duncan Wisbey (Alistair McGowan’s Big Impression, Dead Ringers), Georgina Field (Godspell, Guys and Dolls) and James Thackeray (Dr Who, Trainspotting: Live at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe).
Based on Hawks’ 1990s Perrier Pick of Fringe short The Heartbreak Kid, a two-hander which also starred Ben Miller, Midlife Cowboy will play the North London venue from 13 September to 6 October.
The world premiere Midlife Cowboy follows on from a staged charity reading and sing-through of the show in 2016 which was introduced by Graham Norton and Tim Rice and starred Miller, Alistair McGowan, Jack Dee and Doon Mackichan. A further read-through to help tighten the plot and story was held more recently at the Pleasance in front an invited audience.
