Ryan Heenan will take on the title role in the eagerly-anticipated world premiere stage adaptation of David Walliams’ best-selling Billionaire Boy which is due to debut in Southampton next month ahead of a UK tour.
Heenan (Grease, UK and international tours, The Sound of Music, London Palladium) will play Joe Spud alongside Lem Knights (Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Queens Theatre, Hornchurch; Ragtime, Charing Cross Theatre) as Joe’s best friend Bob; Dean Nolan (Big Fish, The Other Palace) as his factory worker turned overnight billionaire dad Len Spud; and Eleanor Kane (Fun Home, Young Vic) as the new girl in school Lauren.
The cast will also include: Alex ‘Teddy Clements (MD/ensemble); Avita Jay (Sapphire/Raj); Jared Leathwood (Dave Grubb), Natalie Morgan (Sue Grubb), Daisy Noir (Drummer/Ensemble), Dean Nolan and Sophia Nomvete (Bob’s Mum, Gwen).
Announced as part of a 2018 season that includes inaugural programming for Nuffield Southampton Theatres’ newly built city centre theatre NST City, Billionaire Boy is the first musical from chart-topping songwriters Miranda Cooper and Nick Coler.
Adapted by playwright Jon Brittain, Billionaire Boy The Musical will be directed by Luke Sheppard who heads a creative team that includes musical supervisor and co-orchestrator Ben Holder, set and costume designer Gabriella Slade, lighting designer Nic Farman, sound designer Paul Gatehouse and choreographer Tom Jackson Greaves.
Presented by Nuffield Southampton Theatres in association with Belgrade Theatre Coventry, the world premiere of the show will run from 19 November 2018 until 6 January 2019 in Southampton with a press night on 28 November. The tour will visit The Lowry, Manchester (14-17 February 2019), Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre (20-23 February), and Cardiff New Theatre (28 February-2 March).
