Musical theatre fans are being given the chance to star alongside Simon Callow in a new DIY musical created for this year’s festive season.
Produced by the British Youth Music Theatre, Saving Christmas is a solo Christmas musical designed to be performed by anyone of any age anywhere.
Based on a concept by Steven Dexter, Saving Christmas boasts a book by Dexter and Elliot Davis with music by Jimmy Jewell, lyrics by Davis and orchestration and music production by Joe Hood.
Featuring the distinctive voice of Callow as Santa Claus, the ready-made Christmas show also includes guide vocal tracks recorded by West End stars Luke Bayer (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) and Kayleigh McKnight (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical).
Designed for would-be musical theatre stars to entertain family and friends over the festive period, the new 20-minute show tells the story of a Christmas Eve plan to save Christmas after Santa and his elves fall ill.
Created for amateur performance only, the package of show materials (includes: script, score, music tracks recorded in two keys, guide vocals, a show poster and associated materials) is now available for order and will be made available to download from 1 December.
Saving Christmas will also provide an opportunity for young people to polish their skills before joining BYMT’s National Auditions Tour 2021 next year.
