BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning writer and director Debbie Isitt’s new musical based on the uplifting film Military Wives will receive its world premiere at York Theatre Royal in September.
Inspired by the true story of the women who used the power of music to cope with the long periods of separation from their armed forces’ husbands or partners as they served oversees, the latest from the creator of festive favourite Nativity The Musical will make its debut in York from 10-27 September.
Discussing her musical, Isitt said: “This inspirational new musical about a group of women who triumph against all odds has been a joy to create. It is so exciting to be working with York Theatre Royal on such a funny and exhilarating new musical and I can’t wait to share it with audiences.”

A York Theatre Royal production presented in association with Everyman Theatre Cheltenham and Buxton Opera House, the stage version of the film which recounted the story of the women who found solace and friendship by joining a ground-breaking choir will feature a mix of pop, rock and power ballads.
