Improvisation specialists The Showstoppers have turned their attention to filling the void left by the cancellation of both the Eurovision Song Contest and its popular home-grown companion piece West End Eurovision.
Featuring new songs parodying everyone’s favourite Eurovision styles, The Showstoppers Alternative Eurovision Song Contest will stream live on Facebook from 8pm (GMT) on 15 May 2020.
Following on from the recent 24-hour lockdown song challenges, the cast will unite on-screen (performing from their homes) for an evening of typically over the top Eurovision entertainment.
Cast members including Ruth Bratt, Pippa Evans and Showstoppers’ artistic director Adam Meggido will be joined by special guests from the world of comedy.
Each song will be written by The Showstoppers in collaboration with the company’s musical directors Duncan Walsh Atkins, Christopher Ash and Jordan Clarke.
Created by Meggido and Dylan Emery, the Showstopper formula involves taking individual suggestions from each night’s audience and turning them into a brand new fully choreographed and scored musical.
Featuring a rotating company, the improvised musical theatre show was founded in London in 2008 and has proved to be a hit with audiences around the world. An Edinburgh Fringe favourite for 12 years, The Showstoppers have featured in their own BBC Radio 4 series and played to packed houses in the West End.
