Over 30 performers from across the world will appear in a star studded online charity concert to celebrate 50 years of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
With the support of the Really Useful Group and the Universal Group, work is well under way on creating the special concert version of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s first major musical to raise funds for Acting For Others.
The 25-minute Joseph and the Amazing All Star Concert will feature stars including the original UK touring Joseph, Jess Conrad, Darren Day and Keith Jack, as well as the record breaking Mike Holoway, famous for playing Joseph for over 3,000 performances over a 24-year period. They will be joined by Maria Friedman, Ria Jones and Zoë Tyler.
Executive producer Adam Lacey is working closely with leading music producer Nigel Wright to produce the concert which will be live-streamed at a date to be announced.
The creative team hope to raise £5000 for Acting For Others via their Just Giving page. Acting For Others provides financial and emotional support to all theatre workers in times of need through various member charities.
Released as a concept album in 1969, the much-loved stage version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat began its first West End run in 1972.
Based on the biblical story of Joseph and the Pharaoh, the multi-award-winning show which began life as a school concert, has been performed hundreds of thousands of times. One of the world’s favourite family musicals, Joseph has enjoyed multiple runs in the West End and on Broadway, international number one tours, and productions in over 80 countries as far afield as Austria and Zimbabwe and from Israel to Peru.
Featuring songs including ‘Any Dream Will Do’ and ‘Close Every Door to Me’, that have gone on to become pop and musical theatre standards, the show’s starring role has become one of the most sought after in musical theatre. Jason Donovan, Joe McElderry, Lee Mead, Donny Osmond and Phillip Schofield are among the stars who have previously donned Joseph’s colourful coat.
