Theatre professionals across the country are being invited to apply for emergency support from a new fund launched this week.
Backed by stage and screen director Sam Mendes and stars including Hugh Bonneville, Anne Marie Duff and Sophie Okonedo, the Theatre Artists Fund has been launched following a large donation from streaming giants Netflix.
Aimed at providing short-term relief for the hundreds of theatre workers and freelancers across the UK who have been among the hardest hit throughout the lockdown, the fund is also supported by the Society of London Theatre and UK Theatre.
The first round of applications for the Fund’s one-off emergency grant of £1,000 is now open and will remain open until 12 noon on Monday (13 July 2020). The Fund hopes to process all of the initial applications by 27 July.

- Wigs, Hair and/or Make-Up
- Writer
- Other (we will assess whether your profession is eligible)
NB: Dancers are not listed on the application form, however, they are eligible to apply and should simply write in ‘Dancer’ in the free text box labelled ‘other profession’. All applicants will be asked to provide details of up to five professional role/s or job/s that you have done between 1 January 2019 and 31 March 2020.
Over £600,000 has already been raised for the Theatre Artists Fund, but with demand expected to be high the organisers are asking industry figures, corporations, charitable trusts and individual theatregoers to also donate. Larger donations can be made through the website with three options available: £10,000 or more, £100,000 to £249,999, and £250,000 or more.
