Competition and crowdfunding appeal launched by producers of new musical Vanara

The team behind the autumn world premiere of new musical Vanara has launched a new competition to offer one lucky winner the chance to feature on the upcoming London cast recording.

Ahead of its London’s Hackney Empire debut in October and planned UK tour, hopefuls are being invited to submit their vocal renditions for consideration before 4 July 2021. Finalists will be selected every fortnight with their videos shared on social media before the winner is chosen.

To help ensure the musical’s premiere production at the Hackney Empire from 22 until 31 October is of the highest standard the musical’s creative team has launched a crowdfunding appeal with incentives including exclusive t-shirts, tickets and invites to the after-party.

Produced by Giovanna Romagnoli, the epic futuristic tale of warring tribes features music by Gianluca Cucchiara who also produces, lyrics by Andrew James Whelan and a book by Michael Conley. The musical was first workshopped in 2017 and a concept album featuring Eva Noblezada, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Rob Houchen, Francis Ruffelle and Madalena Alberto was released in 2019.

With casting to be announced at a later date, the production will be co-directed by Adam Lenson and Eleesha Drennan. Lenson will also serve as dramaturg while Drennan will choreograph the production.

Announcing the competition, Romagnoli said: “We are excited to provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for one lucky individual, while also showcasing new talent from all across the globe.

Vanara is a musical about unity, and it’s a joy to see people come together through the power of theatre and the arts. We hope people can join us on our journey to create something special and we thank everyone for their support however big or small. We couldn’t do this without you.”
