Tony-nominated former American Idol favourite Constantine Maroulis will lead the cast of Rock & Roll Man when it plays a number of UK tour dates.
The artist who first found fame in the heyday of the hit TV talent show and went on to originate the role of Drew in Rock of Ages on Broadway, will reprise his performance as Alan Freed – the legendary Cleveland DJ who coined the term ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ – after playing Freed initially in the US.
Launching at Salisbury Playhouse from 13 February until 7 March, the cast will also include Gary Turner (The Bodyguard, tour) as Leo Mintz/Morris Levey, Jairus McClanahan (Hamilton, West End) as Little Richard, Joey James (Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, West End) as Chuck Berry, Marquie Hairston (Disco Inferno, UK tour) as Frankie Lymon, Cherece Richards (Shrek the Musical, UK tour) as LaVern Baker, Joe Bence (Death Comes To Pemberley, UK tour) as Buddy Holly and Mark Pearce (Groundhog Day, Old Vic) as J. Edgar Hoover.
Dominique Scott will join the production as Jerry Lee Lewis and as musical director. Scott will also lead the live onstage band.
The ensemble is completed by Shelby Speed (Blippi, world tour) and Anton Stephans (Little Shop of Horrors, UK tour), with understudies Xorael Harrison, Jessica Ncube and Grant Zavitkovsky.
Written by acclaimed musician Gary Kupper, journalist and music producer Larry Marshak and Tony Award-winning producer Rose Caiola, Rock & Roll Man is directed by Tony Award nominee Randal Myler. The production is choreographed by Stephanie Klemons with assistant choreographer Christian Knight and features set design by Morgan Large.
The creative team also includes lighting designer Tim Mitchell, sound designer Tony Gayle, casting director Harry Blumenau, co-musical supervisor/co-arranger Dave Keyes, production manager Jordan Harris, stage manager Graham Hookham, deputy stage manager Katie Marie Galbraith, stage manager Emily Stedman, assistant stage manager Caitlin Ravenscroft, assistant stage manager Ellie Smallbone, company stage manager Jenny Hunter Company, costume supervisor Emily Barratt and dresser Sophie Kemp.
Combining original songs with iconic hits from the legendary performers who shaped a generation, Rock & Roll Man is produced by Wiltshire Creative, Rose Caiola for Caiola Productions and Julian Bird for Green Room Ents.
The production will also visit the Theatre Royal in Windsor, The Arts Theatre in Cambridge and the Lighthouse in Poole.
