Based on the true story of the Cornish singing fishermen and the hit 2019 film recounting their headline hitting story, the tour will feature James Gaddas (Spamalot, Mamma Mia! West End) as band leader Jim, with Parisa Shahmir (The Snow Queen, The Rose Theatre, The Last Ship, Northern Stage, UK and Ireland tour) as his daughter, Alwyn.
Robert Duncan (Drop the Dead Donkey, Twelve Angry Men, Garrick Theatre, UK and Ireland tour) will play Jago with Susan Penhaligon (Bouquet of Barbed Wire, ITV, Of Mice and Men, West End) as his wife, Maggie and Anton Stephans (The X Factor, ITV, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, first UK tour/Broadway and US tour) as Leadville.
Further casting will be announced at a later date.
Following a successful sold-out debut season at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro by heading out on a UK and Ireland tour next September, the 2022/2023 UK and Ireland touring production of Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical will launch at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on 1 September 2022. The tour will return to Truro in April 2023.
Following the Plymouth dates, the tour will visit: The Alexandra, Birmingham; Everyman, Cheltenham; The Lowry, Salford; Milton Keynes Theatre; Newcastle Theatre; Gaiety Theatre, Dublin; New Theatre, Cardiff; Bath Theatre Royal; Leeds Grand; Nottingham Theatre Royal; Sheffield Lyceum; Southampton Mayflower Theatre; Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury; Richmond Theatre; Brighton Theatre Royal; New Theatre, Oxford; Leicester Curve; Princess Theatre, Torquay; Hall For Cornwall, Truro; Bristol Hippodrome; and King’s Theatre, Glasgow.
The hit first production at the Truro venue when it reopened in October following a multi-million transformation project, the story of the group of Cornish fishermen whose love of sea shanties led to a recording contract, and an appearance on the famous Pyramid stage at Glastonbury is directed by James Grieve and written by Amanda Whittington.
The production features choreography by Matt Cole, musical direction by James Findlay, set and costume design by Lucy Osborne, musical supervision and arrangements by David White, sound design by Dan Samson, lighting design by Johanna Town and casting by Jim Arnold.
The musical will receive its North American premiere at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto this Christmas.
Featuring a screenplay by Nick Moorcroft, Meg Leonard and Piers Ashworth, the hit 2019 film Fisherman’s Friends delighted fans across the world. A sequel Fisherman’s Friends: One and All, is set to be released in the UK on 19 August.
