Multi award-winning musical Fun Home, the final production in David Lan’s 18-year tenure as artistic director at the Young Vic, will feature a cast that includes Kaisa Hammarlund (Alison, pictured), Eleanor Kane (Medium Alison), Jenna Russell (Helen), Ashley Samuels (Roy, Mark and Jeremy), Cherrelle Skeete (Joan) and Zubin Varla (Bruce, Alison’s father).
Produced in association with Sonia Friedman Productions, Fox Theatricals and Barbara Whitman, Fun Home will run from 18 June until 1 September 2018 with a press night on 27 June – it marks Broadway director Sam Gold’s Young Vic debut. Further casting will be announced at a later date.
Based on Alison Bechdel’s well-received memoir published in comic book form in 2006, the musical features music by prolific theatre composer Jeanine Tresori with a book and lyrics by playwright Lisa Kron.
With Gold at the helm, the musical debuted at the Public Theater in New York in 2013, followed by a critically-acclaimed Broadway run which garnered five Tony Awards in 2015 and a successful US national tour a year later.
The Young Vic production will feature choreography by Danny Mefford, set and costume design by David Zinn, light by Ben Stanton, sound by Kai Harada, music supervision by Chris Fenwick, music direction by Nigel Lilley and casting by Julia Horan CDG. The associate director is Portia Krieger. The Jerwood assistant director is Leo J Skilbeck. This role is supported through the prestigious Jerwood Assistant Director Program at the Young Vic.
