Fundraising initiative Musical Marathon unites musical directors from around the world

Over 20 leading musical directors will unite early next month for an online concert to raise funds for NHS Charities and Acting For Others.

Produced by Sam Young, Musical Marathon will feature performances by musical directors from high-profile productions including Hamilton, Les Misérables and Six.

Further information about which participants are performing which songs can be found on the Musical Marathon Facebook page.

Unveiling details of the concert, Young said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the response from musical directors not just locally, or even nationally, but internationally. Initially, I just wanted to raise as much money as I could but I now realise this is also a unique opportunity to shine a spotlight on the talent not usually seen on the stage.

“As audiences we thrill to the performers we see but often take as a given the skill of the musicians who we just expect to be flawless — after all, as musical directors, we are often doing our best work if you do not even notice we’re there.”

Musical Marathon will be broadcast on the event’s Facebook page on 7 May at 7pm BST with an intermission at 8pm to applaud the NHS and carers. The concert will be free to view, with viewers encouraged to make donations to the two charitable organisations

The full list of directors involved are Dean Austin, Richard Baker, Nick Barstow, Richard Beadle, Simon Beck, Dustin Conrad, Mike Dixon, Ben Ferguson, George Francis, Luke Holman, Jordan Li-Smith, Leo Munby, Chris Ma, Alex Parker, Laurie Perkins, Bryan Perri, Katy Richardson, Matt Spalding, Flynn Sturgeon, Brian Usifer, Gareth Valentine, Will Van Dyke and Ian Weinberger.
