Actresses Jessica Hynes and Luisa Bradshaw-White, former Strictly celebrities barrister and broadcaster Robert Rinder and doctor and presenter Dr Ranj Singh, Bradley Walsh’s actor son Barney and political journalist Robert Peston will battle it out for the title in the upcoming edition of ITV’s All Star Musicals.
As previously announced the show which will be filmed and aired this month will once again be presented John Barrowman with Elaine Paige taking on double duties as mentor and head of the judging panel.
The ‘first lady’ of British musical theatre will be joined by fellow returnee Trevor Dion Nicholas (Hamilton, Aladdin) and Samantha Barks (Frozen, Pretty Woman The Musical) to pass judgement on six celebrities along with a virtual audience.
As before the contestants will be given a crash course in musical theatre performance with the help of experts including Paige before performing a famous genre song on the show which will be broadcast later this year.
Produced by ITV Studios’ Multistory Media, the show will also feature a special group performance by Barrowman and the three judges.
Commenting on the show, Barrowman said: “Now more than ever we’re all in need of some fabulous musical entertainment and I can’t wait to be reunited with Elaine on stage for All Star Musicals. We’ve got the most amazing show lined up with something for everyone and lots and lots of surprises!”
Paige added: “All Star Musicals is a joy to be a part of, I’m so pleased to be back heading up the critics panel and mentoring our new celebrities. We’ve got the most wonderful evening of musical theatre and entertainment lined up for viewers and some very exciting surprises.”
First seen in 2017 when former Coronation Street regular Lucy Fallon took the crown, the series returned in 2019 when another Weatherfield star Daniel Brocklebank won the title. The 2021 All Star Musicals’ champion will be chosen by the combining the votes of the judges and the virtual audience.
Announcing the new show, Katie Rawcliffe, ITV’s head of entertainment commissioning, said “All Star Musicals returns to our screens at a time when we’ve been missing those powerful and thrilling live performances in the theatre. This one-off special will be a real celebration of musicals and I can’t wait to see the performances our celebrities deliver on stage.”
