Kim Criswell to re-stage A Grand Night for Singing at the Edinburgh International Festival

West End and Broadway star Kim Criswell will bring Tony-nominated musical revue A Grand Night for Singing to this year’s Edinburgh International Festival.

The actress who was nominated for an Olivier for her performance as Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun in the West End and was part of the original Broadway cast of 1982 Best Musical Tony Award winner Nine will star alongside a handpicked cast in the celebration of the classic songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein which debuted on Broadway in 1993.

Conducted by Wayne Marshall and re-staged by Criswell, the popular musical revue will also feature lyric soprano Danielle de Niese and baritone Richard Morrison along with musical theatre artists Anna-Jane Casey and Damian Humbley. The production will play the Edinburgh Academy Junior School from 8-13 August 2021.

Conceived by American theatre director and choreographer Walter Bobbie (director of the 1996 Broadway revival of Chicago), A Grand Night for Singing showcases the timeless work of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

The cabaret-style revue features musical arrangements by Fred Wells and orchestration by Michael Gibson and Jonathan Tunick.

The Festival programme also includes a performance by Shona the Musical Choir at Edinburgh Park on 16 August. The Edinburgh-based Scottish/African choir will present original songs from Shona the Musical, a cross-cultural love story set during the socio-political turmoil of Robert Mugabe’s rule in Zimbabwe.
