The hit revival of the Lyric Hammersmith’s production of Alan Parker’s musical Bugsy Malone The Musical is heading for London to play a Christmas season at the Alexandra Palace.
Currently in the middle of a successful UK tour, the production will take up residence at the iconic venue from 3 December 2022 until 15 January 2023.
Directed by Olivier Award winner Sean Holmes and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie, the revival of the Olivier Award-nominated production which delighted audiences at the Lyric in 2015 and 2016, stars a talented cast of young performers aged between nine and 16 in the leading roles supported by an ensemble of adult performers. The combined company of 39 actors (including three teams of seven young actors) is accompanied by a live band of seven musicians.
Bugsy Malone The Musical is designed by multi-award-winning international stage designer Jon Bausor. The creative team also includes musical supervisor, arranger and orchestrator Phil Bateman, lighting designer Phil Gladwell, sound designer Ben Harrison, associate director Franny-Anne Rafferty, associate choreographer Leanne Pinder, with Verity Noughton as casting director for the unders, Will Burton as casting director for the overs, and wig designer Susannah Peretz.
Presented by Theatre Royal Bath Productions, Birmingham Rep and Kenny Wax, the tour launched at the Theatre Royal Bath in July. The Christmas season at the Alexandra Palace is produced by Kenny Wax.
Based on filmmaking legend Parker’s imaginative 1976 feature film directorial debut, the stage musical – adapted by Parker and features Paul Williams’ original music – premiered in the West End in 1983.
The production at Her Majesty’s Theatre was directed by Michael Dolenz, the drummer in 1960s pop band The Monkees, and starred a young Catherine Zeta-Jones as Tallulah, the role famously played by Jodie Foster on screen.
