West End favourites and musical double act Michael Ball and Alfie Boe are to attempt a record-breaking cross country signing of their new album later this month.
Celebrating the release of Together Again on 27 October, the duo will race against the clock to sign copies of the album at five different HMV stores across the country.
Beginning in Boe’s hometown of Blackpool, the pair will then head for Sheffield, Manchester and Nottingham before flying into London on the Ball and Boe helicopter to complete their last signing at HMV’s flagship store in Oxford Street.
Commenting on their attempt to break the record currently held by Irish boy band Westlife who visited five cities in 36 hours in 2002, Ball and Boe said: “We are ecstatic (and slightly nervous) to be taking on a new challenge, especially one that allows us to meet fans all over the country! What better way to celebrate the new album?”
Access for fans at each store will be on a first come first served basis with a purchase of the album on the day of the event. Access will be limited to no more than 100 people per store, time dependent.
The second album comes at the start of a new partnership with Decca Records involving Ball and Boe who have both been signed as solo artists and as the popular double act which debuted on record last year.
Following on from the first album’s double-platinum success, Together Again features a similar mix of stage and silver screen classics performed by two of British musical theatre’s biggest stars.
The performers are also due to return to the small screen with in Ball and Boe Back Together, a follow up to last year’s ITV special, and they will begin an arena tour in Cardiff on 30 November which will culminate in a performance at London’s O2 Arena on 14 December.
