Miss Nightingale to play limited London season at the Hippodrome

Matthew Bugg’s 1940s-set musical Miss Nightingale will make its West End debut at the Theatre at the Hippodrome Casino next month.

Set in London during the Second World War and featuring 16 original songs, the show which premiered in Salford in 2011 will play the 180-seat Leicester Square space from 21 March until 6 May.

Mixing music hall style songs with tender ballads, the tale of secrets and scandals set in an underground cabaret club during the Blitz will be directed by the show’s creator and producer Bugg.

Bugg will also take to the stage as part of the cast of six actor-musicians which also includes Lauren Chinery (Gatsby, Leicester Square Theatre Lounge, Dreamboats and Petticoats UK tour) in the title role. The cast is completed by: Oliver Mawdsley (By Jeeves and Where Is Peter Rabbit? The Old Laundry); Matthew Floyd Jones (Camera Lucida, The Barbican, Punch, Underbelly); Adam Langstaff (Oxy and The Morons, New Wolsey Theatre, Tommy UK tour) and producer Tobias Oliver (Miss Nightingale UK tours, Love and Romance, Cast Theatre).

Produced by Sheffield-based musical theatre specialists Mr Bugg Presents and The Hippodrome Casino, the production features design by Carla Goodman, lighting by Craig Garratt, original lighting designs by David Phillips and sound by Danny Kissane.

First staged at The Lowry Studio in 2011, Miss Nightingale has completed five sold-out UK tours and last year played a successful season at The Vaults in London.
