Paul Boyd’s musical comedy Molly Wobbly is to get a seven-week season in The Lounge at Leicester Square Theatre from 27 January to 14 March.
Molly Wobbly premiered in 2011 as a staged concert at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre. In 2012 a festival-scale production opened at the Lyric and then ran at the Assembly Rooms throughout the Edinburgh Fringe. In 2014, the show was presented as a staged concert at the Phoenix Artist Club in London (a previous production at the Hackney Empire had been cancelled following ‘unforeseen financial difficulties’). Now Molly Wobbly finally gets a full London production.
The cast includes: Cassie Compton (Wicked, Dirty Dancing, Les Misérables), Stephanie Fearon (TV’s Over the Rainbow, Smokey Joe’s Café, The Wizard of Oz, A Chorus Line), Jane Milligan (Mamma Mia!, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Spend Spend Spend), Conleth Kane (Molly Wobbly, Beauty and the Beast, The Wizard of Oz), Christopher Finn (Molly Wobbly, Iolanthe, Hunchback the Musical, Tinseltown), Ashley Knight (I Can’t Sing!, Ghost, She Loves Me, Grand Hotel), Alan Richardson (Iolanthe, Pirates of Penzance) and Russell Morton (Molly Wobbly, Sweet Smell of Success, Piaf).
Paul Boyd (original book, music and lyrics), who also directs, is the writer and composer of 21 stage musicals. Northern Ireland’s Theatre at The Mill commissioned and produced Boyd’s Hunchback the Musical in 2013 and has just premiered his 21st stage musical, the Christmas fantasy Tinseltown.
Molly Wobbly has choreography by Sarah Johnston, musical direction by Matthew Reeve, and a design by Diego Pitarch.
The show is presented by Martin Witts and Lesley Ackland for Leicester Square Theatre by arrangement with PBM.
