OnComm Award finalists 2021 announced

OffWestEnd has announced the 50 finalists for the 2021 OnComms – the awards launched last year to recognise the wealth of online shows released during lockdown.

Running in conjunction with OffWestEnd’s annual Offies Awards, the OnComm Awards celebrate online, in-app, streamed, audio and other shows accessed by audiences remotely.

Finalists in the 13 OnComm categories include audio shows, shows presented in a series and shows for young people, children and families, with established companies and organisations recognised alongside newcomers and original and re-imagined classic material all featuring among the nominees.

Announcing the finalists, Geoffrey Brown, director of OffWestEnd, said: “2020 has devastated live theatre, leaving many artists, theatres and companies in the dark, so it was fantastic to see so many companies, venues and creatives go online to develop and present new work, or enable audiences to enjoy some great work from the archives.

“The level of innovation in new work was really exciting, from the use of Zoom to imaginative immersive experiences. While we are all desperate for live theatre to return, these online shows prove theatre artists’ resilience and resourcefulness, and we are delighted to be able to announce the finalists across the 13 categories we have created for this unique new award.”

The winners of the OnComms 2021 and the Offies 2021 will be revealed along with a number of special awards on 21 February 2021. The special (virtual) ceremony will be broadcast free to all from the Scenesaver platform.
