Glam rock jukebox musical Rock Of Ages will head back out on tour across the UK from early May next year. Presented by Dan Looney, Adam Paulden, Jason Haigh-Ellery and Richard Klin for DLAP Entertainment, the tour will launch at Portsmouth Kings Theatre from 6-8 May 2021.
Following Portsmouth, the tour will visit the New Wimbledon Theatre (11-16 May); Woking’s New Victoria Theatre (18-22 May); Hull New Theatre (8-13 June); Poole Lighthouse (15-19 June); Peterborough New Theatre (22-26 June); Wellingborough Castle (29 June-3 July); Birmingham Alexandra Theatre (6-10 July); Venue Cymru, Llandudno (20-24 July); Edinburgh Playhouse (27-31 July); Sunderland Empire (27-31 July); Blackpool Opera House (10-15 August); Cardiff New Theatre (17-21 August); Hawth Theatre, Crawley (24-28 August); Glasgow King’s Theatre (31 August-4 September); Milton Keynes Theatre (28 September-2 October); Manchester Opera House (5-9 October); Floral Pavilion, New Brighton (12-16 October); Dartford Orchard Theatre (25-31 October); Stoke On Trent Regent Theatre (2-6 November); and the Beck Theatre, Hayes (15-21 November).
The production is directed and choreographed by Nick Winston with design by Morgan Large, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Ben Harrison and musical supervision by Barney Ashworth. Casting for the tour will be announced soon.
With a book by Chris D’Arienzo and orchestrations and arrangements by Ethan Popp the musical celebrates the classic soft rock of the 1980s. The original Broadway production opened in 2009 and was the 29th longest-running musical in Broadway history when it closed in 2015. The production was nominated for five Tony Awards in 2009 including Best Musical and Best Actor for the original leading man former American Idol favourite Constantine Maroulis.
The show made its West End debut in 2011, the year before the release of the film version starring Tom Cruise, and three years before the first UK tour. The successful second tour began in Manchester in 2018.
