Charlie Condou returns to the cast of the touring production of The Rocky Horror Show
Former Coronation Street star Charlie Condou will return to Christopher Luscombe’s 40th anniversary re-working of the cult classic The Rocky Horror Show for the autumn and winter legs of the current UK tour.
The actor, who will share the role of The Narrator with comedian Steve Punt and veteran actor Phillip Franks, returns to the tour in October at the Manchester Opera House.
Condou, who is best known for playing midwife Marcus Dent in Coronation Street said this week: “I’m so excited to be returning to the cast of The Rocky Horror Show to play The Narrator. I had such a fantastic time playing the role earlier this year, so I was thrilled to be invited back. It’s such an iconic show, I’m looking forward to re-joining the wonderful cast and to seeing the brilliant audiences who I am sure will again be keeping me on my toes.”
Fellow former Coronation Street regular Georgia May Foote will also join the show in the role of Columbia for a special three-week Christmas residency at the New Theatre in Oxford.
The actress who competed in last year’s Strictly Come Dancing commented: “I’m thrilled to be joining the cast of The Rocky Horror Show, I can’t wait to work with the wonderful cast who have been bringing this incredible musical to life each night. I’ve even been taking tap dancing lessons to prepare for the role, which has been great fun! I’m really looking forward to getting on stage and performing in front of the amazing audiences.”
The 2016 UK tour of The Rocky Horror Show has now been seen by more than 230,000 people, grossing over £5 million at the box office since its first performance at Brighton’s Theatre Royal in December 2015.
The cast includes S Club 7 singer Paul Cattermole and Liam Tamne, who shot to fame in series two of BBC’s The Voice, in the roles of Eddie/Dr Scott and Dr Frank N Furter respectively.
The title role of Rocky is played by Dominic Andersen. Janet is played by theatre stars Haley Flaherty and Sophie Linder-Lee, who also performs as Columbia in some venues. Completing the cast are Rocky favourites Kristian Lavercombe as Riff Raff and Richard Meek, who plays Brad.
Since its first appearance at the Royal Court Theatre in June 1973, Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show has been performed worldwide for over 40 years in over 30 countries, selling out in Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and Austria, and has been translated into more than 20 languages.
Director Christopher Luscombe created a new production to celebrate the 40th anniversary which famously combines science fiction, horror, comedy and music and encourages audience participation.
The show continues to play His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen (5-10 September); Norwich Theatre Royal (12-17 September); Congress Theatre, Eastbourne (19-24 September); Blackpool Winter Gardens (26 September-1 October); Bord Gais Energy, Dublin (3-8 October); Birmingham New Alexandra Theatre (10 -15 October); Liverpool Empire Theatre (17 -22 October); Manchester Opera House (24-29 October); Leeds Grand Theatre (31 October-5 November); Sunderland Empire (7-12 November); Bath Theatre Royal (14-19 November); Cardiff New Theatre (21-26 November) and New Theatre, Oxford (13-31 December).
