Josette Bushell-Mingo returns to London in The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin at Theatre Royal Stratford East
The UK premiere of The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin is among the highlights of the autumn/winter season at the Theatre Royal Stratford East.
First performed at the prestigious Playwrights Horizons in New York and written by former Broadway dancer Kirsten Childs, The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin will run from 1 February until 11 March 2017.
The show’s UK debut will mark the return to London of Olivier-nominated actress and director Josette Bushell-Mingo (The Lion King).
Stratford East’s upcoming season also includes the return of the well-received musical drama Glasgow Girls. Conceived and directed by Cora Bissett with a book by David Greig, the show will run from 20 September until 1 October.
Announcing the line-up, the East London venue’s artistic director Kerry Michael said: “We are immensely proud to present our new season of world class theatre and dance. We feel the season provides quality theatre that stirs debates about who we are in a modern, changing and complicated world and offers a platform for new and unheard voices.
“The season also celebrates new writing and new associations. Completing the line-up is the UK premiere of Kirsten Childs’ The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds her Chameleon Skin, another show never seen before by UK audiences in a season of contemporary new stories that need to be told.”
