Director, choreographer, record producer and songwriter Todrick Hall will direct and choreograph the hit stage adaptation of the 2010 movie Burlesque when it makes its eagerly awaited West End debut this summer.
After playing Sean in Burlesque the Musical at the Manchester Opera House and Glasgow Theatre Royal last year, Hall will return to London’s West End as the director and choreographer of the lavish production, beginning performances at the Savoy Theatre on 10 July ahead of a gala night on 22 July. The West End season will run until 6 September.
Looking forward to his West End debut as director and choreographer, Hall who has also contributed new songs for the production said: “This is a huge milestone in my life and career. I’ve always dreamt of being involved in the creative side of a brand new original musical, and I’m privileged, flattered and ecstatic to make my directorial debut with Burlesque The Musical!”
A member of the original Broadway casts of The Color Purple and Memphis, Hall also played Lola in Kinky Boots and Ogie in Waitress in New York. After playing Billy Flynn in the Broadway production of Chicago, he reprised his performance in the West End in 2017-2018 at the Phoenix Theatre in 2018.
Burlesque The Musical features a book by the backstage movie’s director and original writer Steve Antin with additional material by Kate Wetherhead. The musical also features music and lyrics by pop superstars Christina Aguilera and Sia, multi-award-winning songwriter Diane Warren, with new music by Hall and Jess Folley.
Commenting on the show’s imminent West End debut, Aguilera who starred alongside Cher in the original film and serves as executive producer of the stage production said: “I’m proud that Burlesque the Musical is coming to London’s West End! Our journey of making this film to bringing this show to the stage has been so special and exciting. Following our successful previews, having the show land in the West End later this year is a dream come true!”
Featuring a star-studded cast led by Cher, Aguilera, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell, Alan Cumming and Peter Gallagher, the original film featured the Golden Globe Award-winning Diane Warren-penned song ‘You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me’ performed by Cher.
