Live entertainment company Underbelly has unveiled a further 47 shows set to feature in the 2022 Underbelly at the Edinburgh Fringe line-up along with a summer programme in London which includes Fat Rascal Theatre’s Little Mermaid parody musical Unfortunate.
Running from 3-29 August across four sites – George Square, Circus Hub on the Meadows, Cowgate and Bistro Square – Underbelly at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe will host original genre-defining cabaret show La Clique; the return of The B Collective’s Murder Ballads adapted from the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album; and the return of the Olivier Award-winning alternative cabaret of The Tiger Lillies.
Underbelly at the Edinburgh Fringe will also feature a number of family-friendly shows including The Gruffalo, the Giant and the Mermaid with Julia Donaldson.
Announcing the Edinburgh line-up, Underbelly directors Charlie Wood and Ed Bartlam said: “After two scunnered years, we couldn’t be more delighted with our festival line-up which has something for everyone! The team have done a brilliant job in producing our most dynamic programme to date. With even more exciting acts still to come, watch this space for line-up announcements.”
A similarly eclectic programme of shows has been announced for the Underbelly Festival in London which will take place at the company’s Earl’s Court (5 May-16 July) and Cavendish Square (28 April-31 July) locations.
The mix of comedy, cabaret, theatre and circus acts includes Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula The Sea Witch. Inspired by the story of The Little Mermaid and featuring a book and lyrics by Robyn Grant and Daniel Foxx and music by Tim Gilvin, the critically acclaimed show will arrive in London in June following sell-out runs in Edinburgh and across the UK. The musical will play the Earl’s Court location from 21 June until 16 July.
