West End’s Thriller Live has taken its last moonwalk

The producers of Thriller Live have confirmed the hit show took its final bow at the Lyric Theatre last Sunday (15 March 2020) just three performances short of becoming the 11th longest-running West End musical of all time.

Originally due to end its record-breaking 11 year run at the Lyric Theatre on 28 April, the show played its 4,657th and final performance the day before the closure of all West End theatres as the country battles the coronavirus.

In a statement announcing the decision the producers also paid tribute to all who made a contribution to the show’s success: “We would like to thank everyone who has worked on the show; the cast, band, crew, creative team, head office, freelance contributors and theatre staff past and present. We have the BEST team in the world.

“We’ve loved sharing the music and magic of MJ in London and we will keep the legacy alive on tour. Finally, a MASSIVE thanks to all you Dancing Machines, we just can’t stop loving you. Ticket holders should contact point of purchase.”

Moonwalking into the Lyric Theatre in 2009 for an intended six-month run Thriller Live’s run was extended over 20 times, earning the show the record for the longest ever run of a show since the Shaftesbury Avenue venue began entertaining London in December 1888.

Director and choreographer Gary Lloyd heads a creative team that includes musical supervisor and head arranger John Maher, set designer Jonathan Park, lighting designer Nigel Catmur, associate lighting designer Matt Lee, video content designer Colin Rozee and Potion Pictures, costume stylists and supervisors Shooting Flowers, sound designer Chris Whybrow, casting director Debbie O’Brien, associate choreographer Jo Dyce and media programmer Sam MacLaren.

Thriller Live has been seen by over five million people in 33 countries and played over 7000 performances worldwide.

Inspired by the life and music of Michael Jackson, Thriller Live was originally conceived and created by Adrian Grant, an associate of Michael Jackson and the author of Michael Jackson – The Visual Documentary.

The show is produced by Paul Walden and Derek Nicol for Flying Music in association with Adrian Grant for Key Concerts.

A second production of the show continues to tour the world and cancelled dates in the UK will be re-scheduled once the crisis is over.
