Auditions for MTAS’ show tune competition continue until 10 January 2019

Musical theatre aficionados with a penchant for performing songs from their favourite shows are being invited to apply for a chance to take part in The Musical Theatre Appreciation Society’s online competition.

Organised by MTAS, the ten-week contest challenges competitors to produce singing videos in response to different themes suggested by leading West End performers. Previous competitions featured challenges from the stars of Hamilton, Aladdin, Dreamgirls and Kinky Boots.

Announcing the 2019 competition. MTAS’ managing director Willy Mukendi said: “I’m extremely excited to bring back the MTAS competitions, a safe but competitive place for performers to show their talent. It’s a real confidence boost for those who have always been too nervous to put themselves out there. The level of talent is always incredible with thousands of future West End stars stepping into the spotlight. I can’t wait to see what 2019’s competitors bring – welcome to your new online obsession!”

Up until 10 January 2019 would-be competitors should upload a video of themselves singing their favourite show tune to the MTAS Facebook page using the hashtag #MTACOMP19. The ten videos with the most ‘like’ and ‘heart’ reactions will move on to become the competitors in the competition.

This year’s prizes include £100 in theatre tokens, personalised stage-related merchandise, and free auditions to selected drama schools.

Commenting on her experience in the competition, previous winner, Olivia Lawrence said: “People I had never met before were telling me they had voted for me it. The competition was bigger than I thought it would be. It was such an amazing experience. God, I wish I could do it all again.”
