High-profile Labour MP Jess Phillips has been added to the writing team for the world premiere production of Women In Power – A Musical Comedy.
Phillips will join award-winning poet Wendy Cope, comedian Jenny Eclair, screenwriter and playwright Suhayla El-Bushra, writer and broadcaster Natalie Haynes, comedian Shappi Khorsandi and award-winning writer Brona C Titley to work on the show which re-imagines the Greek classic The Assemblywomen by Aristophanes.
Commenting on her involvement in the project, Phillips who was elected MP for Birmingham Yardley in 2015 said: “I’m delighted to be taking part in this project with so many brilliant women. Women in power is what my political career has all been about; what a pleasure to be able to be part of something so creative as a new way of fighting the good fight.”
Produced by Nuffield Southampton Theatres in association with Oxford Playhouse and featuring a mix of music, dance and sketches, the show which will be directed by NST associate director Blanche McIntyre will debut at NST City from 6 September until 29 September 2018.
