The full cast has been confirmed for the special concert presentation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies this summer.
As previously announced, Broadway’s first African-American Phantom, Emmy, Grammy, Tony and SAG Award-nominee Norm Lewis (Company, Dream Girls) will play the character he first played in The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway in 2014 opposite Celinde Schoenmaker (Guys & Dolls, Les Misérables) as Christine, the character she first played in the West End production of The Phantom of the Opera in 2015.
They will be joined by Matthew Seadon-Young (Death of a Salesman, Company) as Raoul with Courtney Stapleton (Beauty and the Beast) as Meg and Sally Dexter (Emmerdale, Billy Elliot the Musical) as Madame Giry.
The cast will be completed by Nic Greenshields as Squelch, Charles Brunton as Gangle and Lucie-Mae Sumner as Fleck, with the ensemble made up of Chloe Campbell, Alex Christian, Courtney George, Aoife Kenny, Alex Pinder and Emily Ann Potter.
Presented by Fourth Wall Live and the London Musical Theatre Orchestra and directed by Shaun Kerrison (My Fair Lady, A Christmas Carol), the two performances at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 21 and 22 August will also feature the 27-piece London Musical Theatre Orchestra.
Commenting on his involvement in the production, Lewis said: “My love for Andrew’s Love Never Dies meant this was the quickest yes, the moment I was asked! I am honoured to don the iconic Phantom mask yet again, and continue the story of a character that forever changed my life. And to perform it at the famous Theatre Royal Drury Lane? There’s nothing greater. I cannot wait to be reconnected with the London audiences!”
A loose adaptation of The Phantom of Manhattan, Frederick Forsyth’s sequel to Gaston Leroux’s original 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies features music by Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater and a book by Lloyd Webber, Ben Elton, Forsyth and Slater. Set roughly a decade after the events of the climactic scenes of The Phantom of the Opera, the musical moves the action to the US.
The musical debuted in London’s West End in 2010 with Ramin Karimloo starring as The Phantom and Sierra Boggess as Christine.
